Emperor Angelfish is all grown up!

One of the coolest things about some of the angelfish is how dramatically they change from juvenile colors to adult colors.  Even though angelfish can be coral eaters I've always wanted an emperor angelfish.  To me an emperor just says reef.  Several months after I got my emperor I took this photo:

As you can see by the time I took the photo he was already developing the dark band across his eyes and some of the white lines were starting to fade.  Thinking back I remember worrying a little bit because it seemed like it was taking forever for the fish to lose the juvenile colors and I had been told by another aquarist that sometimes they never fully change.

Well there is good news!  Here is what he looks like now (I just used a point and shoot camera so the photos didn't come out too well):

I'm really happy he made the full change to adult colors!

Thanks!  He is by far my favorite fish.  From what I have read I believe their change to adult colors is related to their growth rather then a set time.  So if the conditions are good the faster they grow the faster they will reach their adult colors.  I found an older photo of mine; its dated April 23, 2010, which is probably close to when I got him.  That would mean he was in my tank for 16 months before he got his adult colors.

after a year of caring for my emperor angel, i remember mine took about 4 months to change colors.  but, i've heard it's different for some people.

May be a bit of a noob question, but is there a general concensus on how long they remain in their juvenile colours? Or I guess what I'm asking is about what age do they change?
