If you can't afford a chiller this yeard, who can these days, a set of Cooling Fans sometimes can do nicely

The complete construction is made from corrosion…

Outstanding Activated carbon

Greetings Fellow Reefers,

I’d like to announce that we have recently acquired a new source for our Activated Carbon. It is form C.A.C. (Carbon Activated Corp.), all they do is Activated Carbon, and it is indeed superior to any source of activated carbon I have used in the past.

Ns-80 reef octopus protein skimmer making a lot of microbubbles

I just recently got a protein skimmer and this one sounded okay. The instructions that came with it were horrible so I may have set it up wrong (I looked at the picture and matched it).

I have also heard that they need to be broken in which could be the solution. I tried putting it into a different tank that has nothing in it other than the water from my tank but bubbles still remain in my current tank. Any sort of movement such as a rock moving brings out a bunch of bubbles everywhere. Is… Continue

LED Lighting and UV Deficiency

It has occurred to me lately that LED lighting has a complete lack of UV light. some UV is necessary for correct coral Growth. have you heard anything on this? it is still early in the game for long term exposure studies, but they seem to work fine for me and everybody else. just I need to know.

Now, sps near the surface in nature obviously get some UV. The Zooxanthellae (Chlorophyll A peaks in the 410-420nm spectrum which helps feed the algae) can get this needed UV via 420 nm light… Continue

“Old Tank Syndrome” Pt 2; Enter the Dragon

As I was saying, I got a dragon gobi to work on my substrate. It seems that after about 15 years of use, the sand-bed had become too full of debris that was decaying at a rate fast enough to feed the Cyanobacteria, but not enough to pollute the water. The fist thing the Dragon Gobi after acclimation was to start eating Cyano by…
