An aquarium needs regular maintenance for good hygiene and health. Testing the water is a key part of this regime, as pinpointing a raise in toxins or a deficiency of a particular element can help you avoid problems.
Test kits can work via test strips which are simply dipped into the water or via a colour changing system. To use a test strip, simply pop the strip in the water for a few seconds, and then compare it to the colour chart. Other types may need a little more work, such as… Continue

Setting up a new reef aquarium can be a tricky business, and just when you think it is all ship shape…you lose some of your fish. This is known as New Tank Syndrome (NTS) and can happen to even the most experienced aquarist.
The key reason for New Tank Syndrome is high ammonia levels which in turn raises the amount of nitrites. Both of which can poison fish and lead to high losses. High levels of ammonia deplete oxygen levels from the water which can suffocate fish.

I really need help identifying this rabbit fish I bought today. I bought it because it was on sale and the guy didn't know what it was exactly. He just said ordinary rabbit fish. When I saw it at the store, it was changing colors a lot. It went from dark red to brown to desert camo but it's natural color seemed to be plain silver. When it was in the bag it stayed dessert camo colored. After I brought I home and it got used to the tank, it has remained at a brownish whitish mixture. I can't find… Continue

I have a yellow tang and a sailfin that have been in my tank for about 10 months and I just put in a purple tang and the yellow tang is being a jerk they go at it. I killed the lights and have them seperated with eggcrate and they are not trying to go through it as much, I remove it a few hours at a time and they are doing better but I'm still worried, and I will trade out the yellow tang if it dosn't get better. Is there anything else I can try?

I have a Coral Beauty in my 125g.
I feed twice a day having 15 fish (mostly small 1-3 inch), 2 anemones, 1 pepermint shrimp, and a small compliment of snails.
My coral beauty will eat from my live rock, but never the coral.
Try feeding seaweed on a veggie clip, in addition to a meaty food such as
mysis shrimp ( place the frozen cube in a fine net such as a brine shrimp net, run it under tap water until thawed, then transfer thawed food into a cup filled with your aquarium… Continue
